Vor der eigenen Tür kehren ist eine Nebenquest aus Fallout: New Vegas.
Lösung
To start the quest, talk to Ranger Milo in the NCR checkpoint southwest of Nelson. The player can earn a small amount of NCR fame without actually starting the quest, by giving their characters name, passing the speech check (25) and a follow-up Psycho check (24 doses) to impress Milo with their sizable chemical supply. He does not actually take the two dozen doses and comments that he was merely joking.
There are two different ways to complete this quest: killing all of the Legion Members and rescuing the hostages, or just killing the three hostages.
To rescue the hostages, kill all of the Legion and then release them from the telephone poles. They will run back to the rest of the squad on their own. After this you can return the quest to Ranger Milo. You can also dress yourself as a member of the Legion and then walk to Nelson. It's also possible to use the ridge on the west side of Nelson as a vantage point (preferably while sneaking) to eliminate Legion members.
If you kill the hostages you may not have to deal with the Legion members. After killing all three, return to Milo.
Completing the quest after talking to Milo gives Infamy with Caesar's Legion and NCR fame, even if you managed to rescue the hostages without gaining any Infamy. The Infamy is not enough to take a character below Neutral if no other hits were taken, but Legion members will be hostile if not disguised.
If you do the quest Restoring Hope prior to accepting this one, you can simply go talk to Ranger Milo and finish the quest straight away. While the quest wont show up in your pip-boy, it will still count towards the challenge Questin' Mark.
There is a third way to complete the quest (tested at night) without killing all legions yet: Use a Legion armor, turn off the generators for the light, release the men from the poles. They will run through the night to Milo and you can speak with him about this kind of solution. Boone can be as companion there too and he will not attack the legion guards (except the legion dog near the fireplace) if the player acts with legion armor. While rescuing the hostages Boone will give a comment about that and back at Milo he explains that killing hostages is the very last solution and is a job on a regular basis for the 1st recon. If that is done the quest Restoring Hope is still available if not finished at this point. (After this way the player can still move around in Nelson but only if he is wearing legion armor.)

Notes
- This quest provides 'history' with Boone (a requirement for his side quest). The player will gain one 'point' if they kill the hostages, and two 'points' if they rescue them.
- After Milo says he is going to cover you Boone will say, "To hell with mercy killing; we're getting those men out alive!"
- After rescuing the hostages, Boone will voice his opinion of the operation, stating that mercy killing is a "last resort". Because of this and the previous statement it is obvious why two history points are gained for saving the hostages. It's a very personal thing with Boone: you find out at the end that he'd felt compelled to shoot his own wife dead to save her from Legion slavery in a situation where he was alone and it was impossible to release her by attacking. (This is why he knows his wife is dead, but won't say how he knows.)
- This quest and Restoring Hope can be done in any order, despite the obvious fact that the NCR, upon taking control of the town, should have released the hostages themselves. The NCR troops walking around Nelson seem oblivious to the three crucified men. If you released them while securing the town, speaking to Milo will be enough to activate and finish the quest. Likewise, Milo's quest only requires you to kill the Legion troops stationed in the open; the primary target for Restoring Hope, Dead Sea, resides in one of the buildings and does not need to be killed. Killing him results in not needing to do so later in Restoring Hope.
- Don't forget to check a footlocker in the makeshift firing position where you meet Ranger Milo, as you can find two bricks of C-4 and a detonator.
