Vault 31 ist ein Vault-Tec Vault in Los Angeles, Kalifornien. ^{(Fallout Serie)}

Hintergrund

Als Teil der Drei Vaults ist Vault 31 mit zwei anderen Vaults, Vault 32 und Vault 33, verbunden und bildet eine Drei-Parteien Gesellschaft. Die Gesellschaft soll angeblich in drei Vaults unterteil sein, um im Falle einer Bedrohung einer der Vaults in der Lage zu sein, sich gegenseitig in Krisenzeiten zu unterstützen. Den Bewohnern von Vault 32 und Vault 33 wird gesagt, dass Vault 31 genau wie wie ihre Vaults sei, nur eben mit dem Unterschied der Bildungs-, Nahrungs- und Vorratsqualität.^[1] Das ist eine Lüge, die von den aus Vault 31 gelassenen Bewohnern ^{(Buds Buds)} aufrechterhalten wird.

In Wirklichkeit handelte es sich bei dem Experiment in den Vaults um ein Programm namens „Buds Buds"“, das vor dem großen Krieg Vault-Tec-Verkaufsleiter Bud Askins, der die drei Vaults verwenden wollte, um eine Generation loyaler Vault-Tec-Manager zu züchten, die ein Monopol über das Ödland aufbauen sollte, nachdem alle Menschen auf der Oberfläche im großen Krieg umgekommen waren. Bud wollte das erreichen, indem er Vault 31 mit einer handverlesenen Gruppe von jungen Vault-Tec-Führungskräften bevölkerte, die er ausbildete und die dann in dem Vault kryogenisch eingefroren werden sollten. Im Gegensatz dazu wurden die anderen beiden Vaults mit Menschen bevölkert, deren Charaktereigenschaften er als genetisch wünschenswert erachtete und die ganz normal leben würden.^[2]

Bud selbst würde als Aufseher von Vault 31 fungieren, da sein Gehirn in einem Roboter konserviert wurde (nicht annähernd so fortschrittlich wie ein Robobrain, sondern nur wie ein Gehirn in einem Staubsaugroboter.)^[2]

Ostensibly, the three Vaults regularly conduct intermarriage and inter-Vault trade every three years in a ceremony known as the Triennial Trade, but (for Vault 31's part) this is a ruse concocted to provide Vault 31 with any necessary items and to enable the individuals cryogenically frozen in Vault 31 to join the other Vaults and accomplish Bud's directive. To date, all the overseers of Vaults 32 and 33 have been members of Bud's Buds, including George Yaffe, Betty Pearson, and Hank MacLean, often using (or possibly even starting) concerning incidents to boost their campaigns; this trend is so well-known that both of the Vaults have adopted an electoral slogan celebrating candidates from Vault 31.^[1]

Fallout TV series

The truth about Vault 31 was revealed in S1E8 of the Fallout TV series when Norm MacLean decided to impersonate Betty Pearson to trick Bud Askins into opening the inter-Vault door. Upon learning the truth, Norm decided to return to 33, but Askins locked the door and suggested that it would be wise for him to use his father's cryo-capsule since 31 doesn't have any food supplies. Earlier in the show, we learned that denizens of 32 learned the truth about 31, killed their overseer, and tried to break into the neighboring Vault, an attempt which ultimately failed.

This list is divided between dwellers who have been reactivated (defrozen and released into other Vaults), and dwellers who are still dormant (cryogenically frozen). The overseer is Bud Askins.
